Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Feasibility Study

The Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Feasibility Study is a US Army Corps of Engineers effort (Saint Paul District) to assess the feasibility of measures to reduce flood risk in the entire metropolitan and surrounding area of Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN. The study initially considered an array of potential alternatives and led to the current construction project of a diversion channel with tieback levees.

Study Goals:

1. Understand the flood problems in the greater Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area and develop a regional system to reduce flood risk.
2. Determine the Federal government’s role in implementing flood risk reduction measures in Fargo-Moorhead.
3. Document the study findings in a Feasibility Report and appropriate National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document (either an Environmental Assessment or an Environmental Impact Statement).
4. If appropriate, recommend implementation of a federal project to U.S. Congress.
