As a non-profit, the International Water Institute (IWI) is uniquely positioned to provide support services to local units of government, state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, research institutions, and community entities. Our services augment organizations that have needs aligned with IWI’s mission and core research initiatives. SUPPORT SERVICES LISTWater Plan Implementation
Additional steps are necessary to move a recently completed water plan forward to implementation. They include:
1. Clearly describing the frequency and severity of water-related problems
2. Refining your goals and water quality strategy
3. Creating messaging for your communications programs
4. Implementing methods to assess and track water quality improvements
IWI can also provide support for developing geospatial analysis and products to help engage landowners and communities.
Surface Water Quality Monitoring
Support can be provided for:
1. Design of a water monitoring network
2. Equipment procurement, installation and operation
3. Water sample collection, data management, data
analysis, and interpretation
4. Preparation of interpretive reports containing clear
and relevant recommendations.

Geospatial Processing and Analysis
Understanding location-based data comes through geospatial analysis, modeling, and visualization. We provide support for developing effective programs using high fidelity topographic data, hydro-conditioned digital elevation models, and data processing using the Prioritize Target and Measure Application (PTMApp) and the new Wayfindr Stewardship application. IWI staff use and interpret these data to address your real-world resource challenges.
Center for Applied Research and Decision Support (CARDS)
IWI’s Research Program interprets and applies research results from academic and research institutions to develop cost-effective solutions to the complex water problems faced by communities. CARDS is a catalyst to assemble teams of scientists from academia, government agencies, non-profit organizations and the private sector to address specific research topics and provide decision support to effectively and efficiently address water and natural resource problems.
CARDS PROGRAMWriting Support
IWI offers professional documentation and writing support:
1. Grant Writing. We assist organiaztions in identifying and planning funding opportunities. We can also prepare, submit, and track grant applications.
2. Manuscript Review. Local units of government are often charged with decision or policy-making based on a wide range of technical manuscripts (e.g. watershed plans, study report, models). Support services are provide to facilitate independent technical review by objective experts.
3. Technical Writing. Document big data, geospatial, or scientific workflows and processes. Create or revise user guides or help pages.
4. Plans. Need to develop or revise strategic or management plans? Our expertise can provide a jump-start and produce quality documents in short order.
Workshops and Training Programs
IWI staff design and deliver programs tailored to your specific water-related learning and challenges. Programs are built around a robust problem-solving process to ensure tangible outcomes. Workshops and training programs can vary in length from a few hours to multiple days, depending on the complexity of the topic and your organization’s needs.
WORKSHOPSFacilitating Water Challenge Dialogue
A knowledgeable, friendly, and neutral facilitator can guide constructive dialog for water management challenges faced by your group. Our facilitators coordinate with participants prior to meeting in order to examine perspectives, identify common objectives, and craft an agenda that leads to actionable outcomes. Documentation of facilitated session/s, including mutual objectives, desired outcomes, and issues needing further exploration, is provided.
