Phillip Oswald | Monitoring and Education Specialist

Phillip went to school at Bemidji State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in aquatic biology in 2016 and master’s degree in 2018. His master’s research focused on Walleye in Upper Red Lake and the Tamarac River. Additionally while in graduate school Phillip taught introductory biology labs to underclassmen, and was involved in the first hard water lab introduced at Bemidji State where students are able to get hands on experience with various sampling gears and research design.
Phillip joined IWI in the fall of 2019 as part of the monitoring and education team. Before joining IWI Phillip worked at RMB Environmental Labs in Detroit Lakes, MN as the field services lead. He coordinated and conducted all the field sampling including surface water monitoring and aquatic plant surveys. Phillip is excited to bring his past experiences with field work and education together at IWI.
Phillip grew up in Duluth, MN, where he spent a lot of time outdoors hunting and fishing in northern Minnesota. Phillip still enjoys spending time outdoors and is looking forward to learning areas of western Minnesota and North Dakota.
